Hi. Kim here with your next profit growth advice. O is for overheads. Do you ever feel like your overhead expenses have crept up out of nowhere? You’ve spent a little here and then a little there, and all of a sudden, a little is a lot. If you’re not careful, overhead costs can quickly become a drain on business revenues. You really need to keep on top of them. A regular review of your overhead expenses is a simple and effective way of doing this, which will hopefully lead to an improvement in your profit.

There’s no need to tackle this one all by yourself. If you have a team, run a quick brainstorming session to see if anyone has any ideas about ways of reducing costs. You’ll be surprised at how effective this can be. As the owner, a lot of things may have gone over your head whilst you’ve been dealing with the big picture stuff. One idea is going paperless to cut down on paper supplies and ink. It’s good for the environment and it’s good for your bottom line. Another idea is if you are at capacity as a team and are thinking, you are going to need to increase your head count and therefore increase your fixed overheads with increased staff costs, is there anything you can outsource to free up time so that you can delay that recruitment time and expense? Maybe outsourcing your call answering, your bookkeeping, some of your admin even. These days, there are so many services you can out show or off outsource by using sites like Upwork or PeoplePerHour.
