Hi, it’s Kim here with your penultimate profit growth advice. Y is for yearly plan. Planning out your year is so important. It helps each department and function within the business to develop objectives to aim towards. And don’t be daunted, your yearly plan doesn’t have to be an elaborate, time consuming proposition that’s too complicated to follow.

It could simply be a one page strategic plan that identifies your core values, your goals, your ideal customers, and key performance indicators. The important thing here is to break the plan down into quarters at the very least, with key achievable milestones, so you can make the plan happen.

Every business needs to know its direction, to know where its starting point is, and where it’s headed, in order to have a chance of making the right decision to get to the end goal. A clear set of objectives, which are relevant and easily understood by everyone in the business, is a starting point.

And please remember, the plan will change, that’s the nature of the beast. The power and value is in the planning process, the detailed thinking. You will veer off course, that’s natural, but coming back to the plan, the goals and your thinking will help you to make that corrective action to get you back on track.
